The nine members of NBR's Board of Directors hold cumulated financial assets (savings with banks and investments in stock or bonds) worth above 17m euros. The wealthiest member of NBR's Board by far is Nicolae Danila, who until 2007 ran BCR, the biggest domestic bank, with savings and investments worth 15m euros. Governor Is`rescu holds savings worth only 81,000 euros, after having repaid a mortgage loan worth the equivalent of almost 140,000 euros early. However, the NBR governor boasts the most valuable jewellery and art collection, worth over 100,000 euros, with vice-governor Cristian Popa coming second. Like in previous years, NBR leaders are highly transparent as regards the assets they own and the investments they made, but are keeping their incomes secret, both in the case of incomes from the central bank and from other companies they worked with.
