Loan demand from the population remained weak in May and June as well, after showing signs of a potential rebound in March, with no prospects of an improvement until the end of the year, says Serban Epure, manager of the Credit Bureau.
"I don't see any changes in terms of credit demand from last year. Towards the end of the year, the current situation could be seen as happy," says Epure, fearing the impact of the tough adjustment measures taken by the Government, as well as expressing concern about people's ability to repay instalments on loans already contracted.
The Credit Bureau, set up by commercial banks to manage data on the retail credit market, issued a little over 352,000 credit reports, 6% less than in May. The volume is comparable with that recorded in June last year. This compares with 697,000 reports sent to participants in the system in June 2008.
