German-based Rewe is thinking of bringing Bipa cosmetics supermarkets onto the Romanian market, after its food retail chains Selgros, Billa, and Penny Market brought it 1.5 billion euros in turnover.
The Rewe group, second largest player in Romanian retail after Metro, this year registered the Bipa brand in Romania, the no. 1 cosmetics store brand in Austria, and confirmed its interest for a new launch on the Romanian retail market.
"We are interested in expanding Bipa both on the Romanian market and in other Central and Eastern European countries. But we cannot give you details on a potential launch of the chain in Romania because there aren't any at present," Corinna Tinkler, spokesperson for the Rewe group, told ZF.
Bipa's largest business is currently derived in Austria - a market where the chain reported a 576 million-euro turnover in 2009 with nearly 570 stores.
