Valentin Ionescu, the new general manager of the Bucharest Stock Exchange (BSE), says he wants to build a market that would play a central role in the economy and is asking all market participants to help promote it domestically and abroad.
Ionescu, with a 15-year experience in the brokerage field, was brought at the helm of the BSE to quicken market development, hurt in recent years on the shortage of listings and low liquidity.
"Firstly, I will address what I believe is the main problem of the Stock Exchange at the moment: attracting new issuers, through a proactive sales strategy. I will organise roadshows going toward potential issuers and I will personally discuss with them to get them on the BSE. What I want to build is a stock market that should play a central role in the economy, where companies should find funding, and domestic pension funds and domestic and foreign investors should find investment opportunities," Valentin Ionescu stated.
Ionescu, 38, was last Thursday appointed as the new general manager of the BSE, replacing Anca Dumitru.
He is an advocate of the unification of Romania's capital market, through a merger between the BSE and Sibex.
