The biggest energy producer in Romania, Electrica, as well as a local branch of a Serbian group controlled via a Cyprus-based offshore company are the players involved in the biggest export of energy of Romania, worth more than 100 million euros. The amount is to be exported to Rudnap, a Serbian group represented by a three-employee branch in Romania, which posted 7.2 million euro turnover in 2009, stands at 300 MW and is worth over 100 million euros. The power comes from the Turceni and Rovinari Energy Complexes, Hidroelectrica and Nuclearelectrica. The idea behind this massive export of power, which would cover the consumption needs of Petrom, the biggest local company, for two years, for instance, was thought to help the coal sector, faced with production surplus because of the low power consumption.
"This export started on September 1 and will last for one year. The price of the export of electricity is confidential, but is enough to generate profit for the Romanian companies involved," says Ioan Folescu, general manager of Electrica, the company that brokered the deal.
