GDF SUEZ Energy Trading Romania, a company specialised in electricity trading controlled by GDF SUEZ French-Belgian group, is set to enter the Bulgarian market, with the firm's representatives saying the objective is to set up a regional trading platform.
The move comes as the former Distrigaz Sud, a company GDF SUEZ took over in 2005, being its most important asset in Romania, also switched from simply supplying natural gas to providing a basket of utilities including electricity.
As a matter of fact, almost all major energy groups present in Romania have built up integrated utilities portfolios.
"GDF SUEZ applied for an operation and trading licence with the end of interconnecting all regional trading operations. Entering the Bulgarian market will allow us to take part in regional auctions and domestic producers' auctions," GDF SUEZ's Romanian representatives say.
Last year, GDF SUEZ Energy Trading Romania generated 23.7m-euro turnover through eight employees, according to Finance Ministry data.
