The owners of Romanian seaside hotels maintain that revenues collected this summer are as much as 20% lower than last year, with rooms mainly occupied during weekends.
"Whereas in 2009 I expected a tourism rebound this year, in late August I felt that the situation was in fact significantly worse," stated Timişoara businessman Josef Goschy, one of the biggest seaside hotel owners, who controls eight seaside hotels through Unita Turism chain.
The revenues of the hotels he controls were 15% lower in the June-August period against the previous season.
Nicolae Bucovală, owner of Tomis three-star hotel in Mamaia and president of Mamaia Employers' Association, also maintains that June, July and August were slower than the same months of 2009, with the revenues of the unit he controls falling by 5%.
This summer also brought lower revenues for the travel agencies that sold holiday packages on the Romanian seaside.
While summer months brought weak results in terms of tourism operators' revenues, hotel owners expect clients in September, as well.
