After 2009, when domestic consumption declined by 15%, and both production and exports and imports had a similar trend, companies present at the fair say they have not exited the crisis, yet, and this will not happen before they reach the 2008 level.
On the other hand, authorities' representatives at the opening yesterday spoke on an optimist tone about the 8% production increase in the first six months of the year and the 12% export jump in the same period.
"The rising production and exports entitle us to believe the furniture sector could help the Romanian economy rebound. The pick-up on some Western export markets could bring this year's production close to the record level of 2007," said Sorin Dimitriu, vice-president with Romania's Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
