ButanGas Romania, one of the biggest players on the distribution of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), says early next year a 25 MW wind farm worth 44 million euros will become operational in Constanţa county.
ButanGas Romania's Constanţa investment is the company's first concrete step in the renewable energy sector, after it announced its focus on this sector back in 2007 through the group's founder Iosif Constantin Drăgan.
"Our intention is to become involved in renewable energy as we are in LPG. Investment in renewable energy is a strategic decision made by Iosif Constantin Drăgan (...)," say company representatives. The ButanGas group was set up in 1948 by Iosif Constantin Drăgan, one of the best-known businessmen in Romania, who died in 2008. Back in 2001 Drăgan had decided to hand over management of the group's operations to wife Veronica Guşă, executive chairman of ButanGas. According to Forbes estimates, Veronica Guşă de Drăgan is the wealthiest woman in Romania, with a fortune estimated at 420-450 million euros.
