Last weekend, in two filling stations of Petrom, the biggest domestic company, clients could buy fuel at a 40% discount. Market specialists say, though, that such a discount does not entail a big financial effort, the more so as the discounts last for only one hour, with the target being that of bringing people into filling stations.
While petrol and diesel oil are goods with quite an inelastic demand, this type of promotional offers succeed in attracting a very large number of clients.
Reality shows that fuel prices in Romania, though among the lowest in the EU, are a burden compared to the domestic purchasing power, which is another factor securing the success of such promotions.
In parallel with such offers, several oil companies have stated they are focusing on the non-oil services segment, considering the introduction of certain services, such as utilities payment or money transfer.
