Carpatair airline, controlled by businessman Nicolae Petrov, in the first eight months of the year posted 22.5% higher turnover against the same period of last year and a 5% higher occupancy rate, according to company information.
"In the first three quarters of 2010 we focused on developing the Bucharest and Craiova operational bases and we continued expansion on Italy's market, by introducing new destinations and direct flights," stated Paula Ardelean, vice-president with Carpatair, without specifying the value of the company's revenues.
This year, Carpatair has introduced direct flights from Bucharest to Milan, Venice, Verona, Bologna, Ancona and Bari, as well as from Craiova to Milan and Rome. Though these new routes, Carpatair has entered the market segment where Blue Air and Wizz-Air low-cost carriers operate, for which Italy is a key market in terms of the number of passengers and a growth driver.
"We've bet on a higher number of frequencies and flight destinations, varied schedules, and on multiple connection possibilities, which in August led to a 26% increase in the number of passengers," specified Paula Ardelean.
