The biggest hotel on the Romanian market, JW Marriott, with 26 million euros in turnover last year, has closed the Cupola restaurant, which can accommodate 200, in order to renovate it, as part of a nearly one million-euro investment project. "The restaurant will be closed between September and December. The hotel will bear 30,000 RON (7,100 euros) in losses per month because of the restaurant closing, considering that we will not be offering dinner services. Breakfast and lunch have been moved to another restaurant," said Meda Vasiliu, sales and marketing manager of five-star Marriott hotel.
According to Trade Registry data, the hotel posted nearly 14 million euros in losses last year.
The Cupola restaurant will reopen under the name Steak House in the second half of December, so the hotel will post around 25,000 euros in losses because the restaurant is not operational. Marriott has six restaurants and coffee shops, with the "steak house" concept belonging to the international chain.
