The lack of representativeness of the major companies in the employers' associations part of the Social and Economic Council, the conflicts of employers' associations leaders, as well as the fragmentation of the organisations representing the business environment in the talks with the unions and the authorities are the reasons why Romania does not have a strong employers' association, as other European countries do. Businesspeople request an employers' association reform, as well as a reorganisation of the Social and Economic Council.
"To create a strong employers' association, a more active involvement of the managers of the major companies in the running of the employers' institutions is needed, because the propositions on the table during negotiations with unions and authorities make no impact on the business sector," said Mariana Gheorghe, chief executive of OMV Petrom, yesterday during a conference organised by ZF together with OMV Petrom, the Petroleum and Gas Employer Federation and the Association of Utility and Power Companies.
