The first financial report for the third quarter of the year of a top player in the soft drinks and snacks industry fails to reveal a rebound in local consumption.
American-held PepsiCo, which holds the Pepsi bottler on the Romanian market and Star Foods, the producer of Lay's chips, posted an over 10% decline in sales volumes on the Romanian market against the similar time in 2009, according to its latest financial report published in the United States.
Both market segments covered by PepsiCo in Romania, soft drinks and snacks, saw double-digit declines in the third quarter.
The nine-month decline in PepsiCo's sales volume remained double-digit, similar to that recorded in the first half of the year. PepsiCo this year started the merger of Quadrant Amroq-Beverages with Star Foods, following the full takeover of Pepsi Americas bottler in an international transaction.
The local Pepsi producer also saw a decline in its sales volume of over 10% on 2008, with the decline in the value of the turnover amounting to an even steeper 20%. Quadrant Amroq-Beverages posted 160.3 million euros in turnover last year, compared with 202.2 million euros in 2008, according to Trade Registry data.
In turn, Star Foods, whose portfolio includes brands such as Lay's, Krax, and Cheetos, and which owns a plant in Popeşti Leordeni (Ilfov county), reported 347 million-RON (82 million-euro) turnover last year, down 4% on 2008, according to Trade Registry data.
