The top five car importers on the Romanian market posted nearly 600 million euros in turnover in the first nine months of the year, according to a ZF analysis, down by around 25% against the similar period of last year. In comparison, Porsche Romania alone posted over 750 million euros in turnover in the similar period of 2007, the best year in the history of the Romanian car market, and the top five importers posted over 1.5 billion euros in cumulated turnover.
In the first nine months of this year Porsche Romania sold nearly 15,300 vehicles, worth almost 250 million euros, down 13% on the similar period of last year, the lowest decline among the top players, which include Ţiriac Holdings with its four importers, as well as Renault-Nissan, Toyota, and Mercedes-Benz Romania.
Car sales will not record rises in the fourth quarter of this year, either, or in 2011, according to statements from Brent Valmar, vice-president of the Automotive Manufacturers and Importers Association and general manager of Porsche Romania. The APIA vice-president expects the market to return to an upward trend in the second part of next year, as lending returns to normal.
