For over a month, big energy producers have been exporting a large amount of electricity, 500 MW, i.e. nearly 9% of the electricity consumed in Romania last year, to a little-known company based in Serbia , Rudnap
Electrica, the state-held company specialising in energy supply and distribution, which acted as a broker between the producers and the Serbs, say the deal, although concluded under what many term as "non-transparent" conditions, only has advantages. Market sources say, however, that the energy was sold cheaper than it could have been, had an auction been organised, with the difference being of 1 million euros less per month for the Romanian state.
"The 500 MW export that Electrica carries out via two bilateral 300 MW and 200 MW contracts brings a significant profit to producers Rovinari and Turceni Energy Complexes, Hidroelectrica and Nuclearelectrica, to Transelectrica, to Electrica as broker of the export contracts and to SNLO, which has boosted production and avoided redundancies," says Ioan Folescu, general manager of Electrica.
