The non-salary package that an employee gets rarely leaves luncheon vouchers out. They may seem like a minor perk, but being such a widespread benefit, they created an over one billion-euro market.
The number of stores with which voucher issuers have sealed partnerships and the number of employees receiving vouchers has reached an impressive level. Here are the figures: out of almost nine million employees, more than two million get luncheon vouchers from the companies they work for, Business Magazin reports.
The vouchers are offered only in the private sector, which includes around 4.3 million employees, with thus half of eligible employees getting this perk. The number of stores accepting this type of payment is also high. "The vouchers issued by Edenred are accepted in 50,000 affiliated stores countrywide," says Iulian Alexe, marketing and communication manager with Edenred ticket issuer, the former Accor Services, the biggest player on the ticket market.
As a matter of fact, according to the PayWell 2010 survey carried out by PricewaterhouseCoppers, luncheon vouchers make the perk most often offered by companies of Romania. Thus, 89% of companies canvassed say they include this perk in employees' non-salary package and in previous years the percentage reached 75% on average.
