Marius Piţigoi, 57, one of Ion Ţiriac's oldest lieutenants, returns to the helm of the auto division, an entity, which contributes more than 700 million euros per year to the businesses of the Ţiriac group. Piţigoi's return comes six years after he left the group to develop his own business. Previously, the position was held by Marius Drăghici, who left in mid-2010.
The group's auto division includes the four importers, Hyundai Auto Romania, M Car Trading (Mitsubishi), Premium Auto (Land Rover and Jaguar), Romcar (Ford until August 1st) and ŢiriacAuto, the auto retail division, a business that last year reached around 700 million euros, according to ZF calculations, being the biggest local car seller, ahead of Porsche Romania, the biggest importer. ŢiriacAuto is the biggest chain of dealers on the Romanian market, which sells 11 car brands, among which Mercedes-Benz, Ford, Hyundai and Jaguar through 65 showrooms.
Alongside Viorel Niculescu, the former head of Romcar, a company which, until August 1st, was in charge of Ford imports on the Romanian market, Marius Piţigoi was one of the two founders of Ţiriac's auto division in the early 90s, in charge of the most representative brands within the group, Mercedes-Benz and Ford.
