The domestic media market has a huge growth potential, a reason why we will see it revert to growth in the second half of next year, believes Tomasz Pawlikowski, a CEO for CEE and Russia with Publicis communication group.
"The Romanian market will see a slight rebound, we will notice an increase in the second half of the year. The Romanian market has potential and is likely to go back to the growth pace of the pre-crisis period. There are no reasons why he market should not grow. Advertising expenses per capita in Romania are around 30 times lower than in Germany. Even against neighbouring countries Romania is in a weaker position, so there is room for growth," he explains.
Pawlikowski's comments come amid a difficult period for the domestic media market, one of the hardest hit by the crisis. This year, the media market will drop by 9% against 2009, to 308 million euros in net value, according to the Media Fact Book report published by Initiative Media Romania, part of Lowe communication group, in mid-2010.
Publicis group, set up in 1994 by Teddy Dumitrescu (42) has not been seriously harmed by the crisis, says Pawlikowski. "In 2010, we expect to get turnover similar with that of 2009," he said.
