Peter Weiss, the former head of RBS Romania, will take over executive management of Bancpost, the ninth largest bank on the Romanian market in terms of assets.
Following this appointment, Mihai Bogza will keep his position as chairman of the Board of Directors, after the last two years had seen him run the bank's daily operations, according to an announcement of Greek group Eurobank EFG, owner of Bancpost.
"Together with the current team of professionals, we plan to continue to develop the business, both on the corporate segment and on the retail segment," said Weiss. He needs to get the National Bank's approval before he can formally take over as CEO. At the beginning of the year he was appointed member of the bank's Board of Directors.
Born in Argentina, but with Dutch roots and having studied in the United States, Weiss, 51, ran operations of the former ABN Amro taken over in 2008 by British-held Royal Bank of Scotland for four years, between 2005 and 2009. During his term in office, ABN Amro continued its tradition as a player with a strong position on the corporate segment, but also sought to develop the retail segment, though using a different model from the other players, focusing exclusively on the mobile sales force.
