ZF has for the first time put together a ranking of the 100 biggest companies still in Romanian hands, with the ranking revealing that these companies employ 90,000 people and their turnover exceeds 45 billion RON (10.6 billion euros), i. e. 4% of the overall turnover of companies in Romania.
Although the Romanian economy boasts powerful entrepreneurs, the size of companies they run is not very significant, especially since few were able to tap into Western European markets, pursuing a model that entrepreneur families in these countries currently apply in their expansion in Romania.
The leading Romanian entrepreneur, Zoltan Teszari, saw his business reach 1,658 million RON in turnover in 2009, while net profit stood at 212 million RON and the number of employees reached 6350. The second leading entrepreneur, Ioan Niculae posted 1,323 million RON turnover in the same year, as well as 58 million RON in losses, while the number of employees stood at 274. Cezar Rapotan's business posted 1,304 million RON in turnover and 9 million RON in losses, while the number of employees reached 2,673.
