Though the two energy giants, Electra and Hidroenergetica were due to become operational in mid-2010, the tens of lawsuits filed against the move to reshuffle the national energy generation system put the project off. Another major project delayed for this year are the two 4bn-euro reactors of Cernavodă. Another postponed project, which is now taking small steps, though, is the one of the over 1bn-euro station of Tarniţa-Lăpuşteşti.
In the area of projects worth billions of euros, but in the field of natural gas, 2011 is likely to be a crucial year for Nabucco, the only interconnection project likely to cut Europe's dependence on Russian gas.
Besides these projects where the state plays a major role, one of this year's certainties is related to further investments in wind farms.
