Cătălin Popa, 39, head of the first private hospital in Romania - Euroclinic - has left the helm of the company after five years, being appointed National Director of World Vision Romania, an NGO involved in healthcare projects. His move was somewhat to be expected, considering that last year medical services operator Centrul Medical Unirea, held by Advent investment fund, bought Euroclinic, a business that posted around 10 million euros in 2010. Together, the two companies have over 30 million euros in turnover on a private medical services market worth 400 million euros per year. Popa remains a member of the board of directors of Euroclinic.
Contacted by ZF, he did not wish to provide details on his new position, but the information is also available on his updated profile on business social networking website LinkedIn.
Popa left Romania for the USA in 1987, where he remained until 2005. For five years he worked in Mayo Clinic, an Arizona hospital with 3,000 employees and 200 doctors.
The biggest private clinics on the Romanian market include Medlife, Euromedic, Polisano, Gral Medical and Sanador.
