Foreigners made net Stock Exchange acquisitions worth 84.3 million euros last year, 88% more than in 2009, but a lot less than in 2006 and 2007.
The value of foreign capital inflows on the Stock Exchange was significantly affected by the transactions made by Kazakhstan's KazMunaiGaz, which bought Rompetrol Rafinare shares from local investors for around 58 million euros, both through a tender offer and directly from the market. Transactions involving Rompetrol aside, foreign capital inflows amounted to around 26 million euros, similar to one month's level during the market booming period.
SIFs (financial investment companies) sold BRD Société Générale (BRD) shares worth around 48 million euros, with the buyers most likely being foreign investment funds. Shares of the Bucharest Stock Exchange were also attractive to foreigners, with some of the operator's leading shareholders, one of whom is Daniel Ţepeş, putting significant stakes up for sale, while Erste and Franklin Templeton were on the buying side.
Romanians took out 73.6 million euros from the Stock Exchange, with the cumulative balance of accounts where Erste Bank (EBS) shares are traded being a negative one of 10.6 million euros.
