At least half the works of Alpine Romania, the local subsidiary of Austrian constructions group Alpine, could consist of road infrastructure works this year, said Ionel Giuglea, the company's general manager.
Alpine's contract portfolio therefore shifts focus to contracts with the state, considering that the two ministries responsible for the Romanian road network, the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure, and the Ministry of Regional Development and Tourism, have announced tenders for hundreds of kilometres of motorway and thousands of kilometres of county and local roads. "If a minister goes public and says they want to build motorways, it would be reckless of you to take a risk for four years, the minister's assumed term in office, and not consolidate that segment" Ionel Giuglea, general manager of Alpine Romania, the local subsidiary of Austrian group Alpine, told ZF in an interview. The company, which posted 80-85 million euros in turnover in 2010, has built one of the most expensive office projects in Romania, Petrom City, worth 130 million euros.
