Two Opel and Chevrolet dealers, Gold&Platin in Pipera and Expocar on Bucharest's Ring Road, have closed down their Bucharest showrooms and opened dealerships in Bacău and Buzău, respectively, towns that did not have dealers of the two brands before.
Whilst the Bucharest market is relatively crowded with dealers, importers are seeking new markets for their cars in order to adjust to an 80% smaller market than in 2008.
"The showrooms of certain dealer groups, such as Expocar and Gold&Platin, have been relocated in order to make the dealer network as efficient as possible," said Cătălin Manta, country manager of Chevrolet Romania.
This will leave Chevrolet with just four showrooms in Bucharest, two of them belonging to the Rădăcini group, one to Di-Bas Auto and one to German Top Trading (GTT).
As for Opel's showroom network, it will be left with five dealerships, Rădăcini Motors, GTT, Erebus, Di-Bas and Union Motors Car Sales, the latter belonging to Israeli group New Kopel Romania. Opel officials did not provide comment by edition close.
