The number of Romanian IT companies that have reached the highest level of partnership with Microsoft (Silver or Gold) could be reduced in the coming period after the American software producer has introduced stricter rules globally, as part of an effort to improve relationships with clients as well as improve company results.
Microsoft has an indirect business model, where sales are very much dependent on partner performance, so the American company is constantly changing its rules of working with partners, around once every three years, says Florian Ivan, the manager in charge of programmes and strategy of working with partners within Microsoft Romania. "We have to make sure we have as many partners as we need and that their expertise is the best for business," Ivan says. The company has about 4,000 partners in Romania, over half of which are enrolled in the official partnership programme and have a formal relationship with Microsoft.
