Romania's biggest cosmetics producer Farmec Cluj-Napoca, whose business stood at 95.9 million lei (22.8 million euros) last year, is selling its products via the Auchan and Drogherie Markt in Hungary and intends to partner with modern foreign retail chains on other markets abroad.
Farmec products are sold in more than 30 countries worldwide, yet only via traditional retail, through distribution companies.
"Some of the most important markets for us are Japan, where we have an over 35-year tradition, the United Arab Emirates, Lebanon and countries in Europe. We are present via traditional retail on these markets, yet in the future we want to enter modern retail chains, starting with those that have stores in Romania, too. Hungary is one of the first markets we tapped into in this regard," says Mircea Turdean, general manager of Farmec Cluj-Napoca. The Turdean family is also the most important shareholder of the Cluj-based company.
