Anca Boagiu, transport and infrastructure minister, is starting to have increasingly more in common with her predecessor, Radu Berceanu, as well as with other previous transport ministers, such as Ludovic Orban and Gheorghe Dobre, who, although they had 2 billion euros per year at their disposal, only talked about building motorways, but failed to walk the walk.
Since her appointment in September 2010 until now, Anca Boagiu has promised several times, even as recently as a week ago, that Autostrada Soarelui (A2 - Sun Motorway) will be ready by the end of the year.
However, on Wednesday night she announced on Pro TV's evening news programme that the ministry could terminate the contract for the Cernavodă-Medgidia section, signed with French company Colas, and that motorists will be able use the motorway to go to the seaside, but will have to use bypasses between Cernavodă and Medgidia.
"We will no longer tolerate delays. If a company has earned a contract, it needs to observe the deadline. Those who are late need to pay damages to the Romanian state. Next year in December I will be able to take the motorway home," Anca Boagiu said firmly on November 10 2010.
And not only then, but also in January and February 2011. "As far as the Cernavodă - Constanţa motorway is concerned, there have been big expropriation problems, but all the land issues will be solved by the end of March, so there won't be any reasons for works to be delayed. This motorway can be opened for traffic in 2011, motorists will be able to use it, but only on one lane in each direction," Anca Boagiu said on February 14th 2011.
