Furniture and interior decoration retailer kika, which operates a store in western Bucharest continued to see a growth trend in the first two months of 2011, a trend which is estimated to be kept for the entire year.
"If consumer confidence continues to increase and infrastructure is improved, I think we will have a very good year," said Lars Lund, country manager of kika Romania. He did not say what the trend was in January and February compared with the similar period of last year, but for the entire financial year ending on March 31st, the kika manager says he expects 7% higher sales.
According to data from the Trade Registry, kika posted 11.8 million euros in sales in 2009 calendar year and 4 million euros in losses.
Lund is the second furniture industry manager to send a positive signal after Dan Şucu, who controls Mobexpert stores, announced that in 2011 he expected Mobexpert to return to growth. Şucu's recent statements are the first optimistic signals he has sent since the start of the crisis. Moreover, he even talked for the first time about resuming expansion with two large stores, after having received good offers from owners of suitable space.
In turn, the head of kika announces expansion plans, but not for 2011. "The next store, which is scheduled to open in the spring of 2012, will be located in Constanţa, with construction works already under way," Lund added.
