Canadian-held Greengrass Group, which developed a database with auto insurance claims, has come to hold information on 1.3 billion claims filed with nine insurance companies and is preparing to export the system to other countries in the region, as well.
Ian Robinson, owner of the Canadian group, says the ACID database (Auto Claims Information Database -a database with information on auto claims) was created based on requirements and suggestions of insurance companies, with its main purpose being to discourage fraud. The database contains information on both on events related to auto liability insurance policies (RCA) and to comprehensive insurance policies (Casco).
Customers who stage accidents or even the theft of a vehicle will be possible to be tracked down more easily since each of the nine companies has access to a much wider database than their own claim history.
"During a crisis period it is easiest to stage an accident to get the insurance money. People think insurers have very deep pockets and can pay, but this is not quite so," Robinson told ZF in an interview.
The Canadian has so far persuaded nine insurance companies to take part in this system. Among them are Omniasig, Generali, Ardaf and Credit Europe Asigurări, with Robinson saying he is still in negotiations with three big companies - Astra, Allianz-Ţiriac and Groupama.
