Almost four years after the July 2007 moment, when at least theoretically the electricity and natural gas markets were liberalised, with consumers thus having the right of choosing their own utilities supplier depending on the most beneficial price offer, the effects of this move are almost zero.
No household consumer gave up their old electricity supplier, but there are around 100 persons who decided to have another natural gas supplier. Why is this?
"Household consumers do not choose to change their supplier owing to the protection offered at this moment by the system of regulated tariffs for final consumers, in other words suppliers cannot offer a better price than the regulated one. At this moment, by changing their energy supplier, household consumers would see the value of their electricity bills rise," say the representatives of Electrica.
Whereas on the electricity segment things have been frozen for four years, on the segment of natural gas supply operations, Germany's E.ON says there are around 100 household consumers who decided to change their supplier.
