Constantin Trihenea, the head of the company that generates the cheapest energy in Romania, Hidroelectrica, says the logic of all sellers is to sell their merchandise for good money.
Still, Hidroelectrica's board set a sale price that is 40% lower than the market one for the company's energy, though the firm needs investments of billions of euros.
"Any seller wants a good price for their merchandise, but contracts have to be carried out. Hydropower is already contracted, so what I have to do is generate to meet contracts," says Trihenea, who had been a Sibiu prefect before taking the position of general manager of Romania's biggest energy producer.
Last year, several expiring direct contracts were extended until 2018. According to the company's representatives, direct contracts are necessary to guarantee the loans the company needs to fund its investment needs.
Trihenea says the company has both medium, as well as long-term projects and the money comes both from own sources and from banks.
