Compania Naţională de Investiţii (The National Investment Company), an institution subordinated to the Ministry of Regional Development and Tourism (MDRT) yesterday launched a prior information notice for the building of a multipurpose hall that can seat 20,000, worth 50 million euros. The representatives of MDRT told Mediafax that the project could be developed in Bucharest's 2nd sector.
The project is set to take two years and a half to develop, with contract awarding procedures set to begin in July of this year. The money for this project will come from the state budget, the MDRT budget and from other sources. At present, the biggest hall in Romania that can host sporting events and concerts is Bucharest's Sala Polivalentă in Tineretului Park. The hall can seat 6,000 to 8,000 people.
At the beginning of this year Tourism Minister Elena Udrea launched the "Multipurpose Halls" National Programme, whereby 30 multipurpose halls are set to be built in county towns, which will seat 5,000, 10,000 and 15,000 respectively.
