Among the top ten agrifood product exports in terms of value are basic agricultural products such as wheat, maize, rapeseed, barley, and sunflower. The value of the top ten agrifood products exported amounts to 2.2 billion euros, 73% of the total value of exports.
Agriculture Minister Valeriu Tabără said yesterday that Romania needed to limit agrifood exports in form of raw materials, with the authorities' goal being to export processed agricultural products.
"If wheat and maize are exported in form of raw material, we achieved nothing, we have to export products with higher added value," Tabără said.
The trade deficit for agrifood products stands at around 800 million euros.
