Britain's Carlson Ventures International fund has come to own 12% in Oltchim Râmnicu-Vâlcea (OLT) chemical plant and is likely to enter the race for the company's privatisation, in which Germany's PCC group is also interested.
Carlson Ventures last week took over around 9.2% in Oltchim stock, through a Cyprus-based company, Nachbar Services, in the wake of transactions worth 3.3m euros, coming to own 12% in the company.
Oltchim shares had surged ahead of last week's purchases, doubling their price in around one month and a half. On Friday, Oltchim shares closed at 0.43 lei, with the company's capitalisation standing at 35.8m euros.
About Carlson Ventures International there is little information on the Internet, which is related to two deals sealed in Poland, namely the sale of some stakes in Art NEW media, a company providing "art management" services, and in Mennica, a Polish company specialising in currency and collectibles issues.
Carlson Ventures International is managed by Britain's Carlson Private Equity, according to Mediafax.
"Since we are not standard private equity house but rather opportunities fund we are not afraid of significant losses or negative equity," reads the company's website. Oltchim is an investment that matches the profile of such an investor.
