The first advice that Sibiu-based companies would give to smaller companies that want to develop is to "dare" take out money from the European Union, even if "bureaucracy" is sometimes excessive, and the support comes only if the risk is well calculated.
"This is a huge opportunity for big companies, as well as for small ones to grow," said Ioan Firiza, human resources manager of Compa Sibiu, one of the five biggest Romanian-controlled exporters.
Firiza was present yesterday in Sibiu at the even titled Caravana Fondurilor Europene 2011 (European Funds Caravan 2011), organised by ZF in partnership with Banca Transilvania, Bancpost, EximBank and consultancy Accreo.
The company obtained EU funding for 13 projects that involved the training of over 2,000 employees. The company has budgeted 112 million-euro turnover for this year, with more than 100 million euros of it set to come from exports.
Sibiu-based entrepreneur Ilie Vonica, one of the strongest in the drug industry, has used EU funds to develop his business and says he will continue to do so, although for now healthcare is not considered a priority sector for EU funds.
