Billa supermarket chain, part of German group Rewe, will invest around 12.5 million euros in remodelling eight of the chain's stores, according to ZF calculations based on the number of stores and on the average investment per store announced by the company.
The remodelling process has already been finalised for two stores, one in Bucharest and one in Timişoara. The total investment in remodelling the two stores was over 3 million euros, according to the company, while the time needed for the works was around two months and a half for each store. Billa representatives also announced they had another six stores planned for remodelling this year, which are set to be completed by the end of 2011. The investment per store amounts to 1.6 million euros.
The remodelling process has in the case of the Bucharest and the Timişoara stores entailed the modification of the stores' interior architecture, flooring, lighting system and shelves. In the case of the first stores to be given a new look, the fresh products area is now 70% bigger than before.
The retailer has yet to announce financial results for 2010, posting 1.22 billion-lei (288 million-euro) turnover in 2009 and a 9.2 million-euro profit with 42 stores.
