Romania's RCS&RDS company, one of the biggest TV services provider in Central and Eastern Europe, at the end of February 2011 had over 716,000 clients on the Hungarian market, up 23% from the end of 2009, according to the data released by the national media and communications authority of Budapest (NMHH).
Our of a total 2.69 million TV services subscribers monitored by NMHH, UPC at the end of the month had a 28.9% share, RCS&RDS (Digi)-26.6%, and Deutsche Telekom (T-Home)-24.8%.
On the cable TV market, which had 1.8 million clients, UPC ranks first with 32.2% of the market, followed by T-Home -22.6% and Digi-17.5%.
Compared with December 2009, RCS&RDS boosted its number of clients by almost 50%, inclusively amid some acquisitions. Clients of IPTV services are included in the category of cable TV subscribers by NMHH.
On the satellite TV market, with 887,818 clients, Digi led with 49.5% of the market in late February, followed by T-Home with 29.3% and UPC with 22.1%.
Taking into account an average income per subscriber of 1,200 forints (around 5 euros), the minimum tariff for TV services of RCS&RDS in Hungary, the Romanian company can be estimated to annually derive around 43m euros only from TV in the neighbouring country.
