Tudor Caranfil, who has 50 years of experience as a film critic (who also turned 80 this week), was present at the Mediaș film festival.
Last week he witnessed the birth of a new movie.
A member of the jury of the "International Federation of Film Critics", Tudor Caranfil is considered some kind of jinx, that moviemakers fear, but who gets invited anyway, because it would be worse if he wasn"t invited - at least, when he gets invited, one knows what to expect...

"Given the dubious effectiveness of this kind of festival, with them only being lucrative because they are usually subsidized by the state, or sponsored by companies, the festival of Mediaș surprised me with its usefulness and its rigorous definition", and added: "In other words, when I leave the festival I will be a rich man", and then started laughing - "I got paid by Mr. Gabrea!" -, only to then exclaim "delete that!", then start laughing again, "No, leave it, it"s true! Mr. Gabrea repaid me with what I had to gain in terms of movie experience".
Together with the premieres of movies from central European countries, Tudor Caranfil has also watched the gala of Jewish silent movies, from the synagogue of Mediaș (restored Yiddish language movies from the archive of the National Jewish Movie Center of the Brandeis University of Boston), which he confessed was something he had never seen before: "I had no information on Yiddish cinematography, and the retrospective scheduled by the Festival helped me fill this gap in my knowledge - which is something I wasn"t expecting", the critic said (his black business card, has his profession written in white letters, in French: "Historien du Cinema").
"It was a festival of silent and talking movies, where these two parallel elements finally met", Tudor Caranfil said, bendin
