Prime minister Victor Ponta held a press statement at Victoria Palace, Monday evening, aiming to clarify his position regarding the latest events.
Victor Ponta's most important statements:
- Now, when it has been proven that the referendum was uncorrupted and and reflected the will of those who voted, it is the time to instruct Traian Băsescu and those surrounding him to stop making statements about coups and law violations.
- I demand him (Traian Băsescu) to stop threatening state institutions, media trusts and citizens that voted in a rightful referendum.
- I am warning Traian Băsescu that we have all the legal means to defend the citizens of Romania from his abuse.
- Traian Băsescu must understand that coups are not carryied out using the votes of the people. 8,5 million Romanians voted expressing very clear their serious discontent with the way Băsescu carried out his duty. The problems of these people are not being handled, don't go away and can not be forgotten. I think it is essential listening to the message of 8,5 million Romanians.
- I feel that Băsescu is representing only himself. (...) What I mean to say is that Băsescu is a president that didn't even get his own vote.
- We await for the Constitutional Court of Romania (CCR) decision, but I urge Băsescu to understand that Romania is not his estate and that he can not do anything he pleases with anyone in this country.
