Prime Minister Victor Ponta wrote to the president of the European Commission, Mr. Jose Manuel Barroso, to ensure him that the Romanian Government will respect the decision of the Constitutional Court of Romania on the referendum.
"The Romanian Government will respect the decision of the Constitutional Court" on the referendum, Ponta emphasized in the letter dated Monday.
Ponta conveyed Barroso that "the public estimations evoke a public participation at the referendum between 48 and 50%".
"It seems very clear now that the 50% threshold was not reached, so Mr. Basescu will return to his office", said Ponta at the beginning of the week, according to AFP.
