Crin Antonescu held a press statement on Tuesday. Here are the most important statements made by interim president:
- I would like to congratulate the Romanian athletes who have achieved notable results at the Summer Olympics in London and, especially, to wish success to those who continue to be in competition this evening, especially to girls gymnastics team, who always brought joy to us and we are confident they will do so tonight too
- The first conclusion after the official results of Sunday's referendum is, that Traian Basescu was, in fact, dismissed, but we await for the CCR verdict.
- In terms of legitimacy, Traian Basescu was dismissed by those who elected him president of Romania, by the real majority of citizens with the right to vote in Romania. In terms of legality, we expect and respect the CCR verdict.
- Beyond Real quorum, beyond the actual number of voters in Romania, two issues remain that can not be changed: 5.200.000 elected him as president, 7.500.000 chose for him to leave.
- We do not know what figures will be the CC will take into account when they will give their verdict.
- The 8 million people mean democracy, mean life.
- About those who did not come to vote and are on the lists we do not even know if they are still alive.
- Romania's Constitutional Court has to make a very difficult decision. I am a politician who has repeatedly criticized the decisions of the Constitutional Court. I've always respected them, I have applied them, but I have repeatedly criticized them. I do not know if I was or not wrong in form or in substance. I do not withdraw any of those criticisms, but I feel obliged to say today that whatever decision the Constitutional Court will make it is not to blamed.
