Victor Ponta instructs all political parts involved in the actual political conflict generated by the procedure to impeach president Traian Băsescu to restrain from putting any kind of pressure, publicly or straightly, on the Constitutional Court of Romania (CCR) or on some of the judges in this institution, Agerpres agency informs.
„As a prime minister of the Romanian Government, considering the importance of the actual political situation, as well as the democratic commitments that we have assumed, I wish to send out a public signal concerning the assurance of the CCR independence. From this position, I wish to instruct all political parts involved in the actual political conflict generated by the procedure to impeach president Traian Băsescu - whether it is about the impeached president, the Romanian Parliament or the political parties in Romania - to restrain from putting any kind of pressure, publicly or straightly, on the Constitutional Court of Romania (CCR) or on some of the judges in this institution“, asserted Ponta.
The Romanian premier stated that he would especially appreciate it if the piece of advice was followed by all parliamentary parties - SDP, NLP, CP, DLP, UDMR or NUPR.
Victor Ponta specified that „he vouched in front of the European Commision and in front of the international partners of Romania for the independence of the Constitutional Court, as well as for the fact that nobody would try to influence or question its decisions.“
