The eRomania portal, aimed at simplifying the interaction of the business world and of citizens with state institutions by creating up to 600 online public services by 2013, is a controversial one, with the amount allocated for it, almost half a billion euros, considered to be too high.
"The amount may not be efficiently spent: The state is not such a good manager," Calin Fusu, general manager of Neogen, the company that owns the most visited Internet portal in Romania. He added that the amount allocated seemed to be rather high, considering that a website does not cost more than 1 million euros. "I think it will cost more to oversee the institutions involved in the change."
In turn, Sergiu Biris, general manager of Trilulilu, the Romanian video sharing website, says that "considering the problems facing the country - the lack of money for paying salaries, allocating such an amount may not be a good move. "This is not a bad idea, but I am sceptical about the success of the project," he added.
