Romastru Trading, a pharmaceutical distribution and marketing company, is entering the generic drugs market with its own brands, by launching 45 products in several therapeutic areas in 2010 and 2011.
"This is licensing. Romastru has bought licences for these products in Romania and Bulgaria for the time being. This has been handled by a special division, which identifies markets with potential, contracting licences from various manufacturers, registering the products, the names and securing the marketing permits," says Cristian Bota, the company's general manager.
Romastru works with companies in Europe and India, which manufacture these drugs under the Romastru brand. Bota has not offered information on the costs of buying these licences.
Bota adds that after registration, the products are promoted with doctors, and that the first launches are set to take place this year, and continue in the future.
In December 2009 Romastru ranked 13th among the top players in drug distribution, up from 23rd at the beginning of 2008, according to the information provided.
In the first quarter of this year, Romastru posted around 52 million RON (14.4 million euros) in sales, up 26% against the similar period of 2009.
