Virgil Mailat and Emil Morariu, two former shareholders of Bere Mures beer producer, a company acquired by Heineken in 2008 for 150 million euros, want to invest 10-20 million euros in a wind farm in eastern Romania.
"We are in advanced talks over the acquisition of the plot. The surface area is not important, the wind force is. (...) This is an attractive sector, close to what I studied (he is an engineer by training i.e.)," Mailat told ZF. He sold 25% of his shares in Bere Mures, the second-largest independent beer producer on the Romanian market in 2008, for 35 million euros. He and the other shareholders shifted their investments to sectors that do not have anything to do with the beer industry.
Mailat invested around 11 million euros in opening a private hospital in Targu-Mures, including two clinics previously developed by the businessman. Emil Morariu invested around 4 million euros in building a hotel in Targu-Mures, while Gheorghe Grec acquired four-star hotel Germisara in Geoagiu-Bai resort, Hunedoara county.
