French sporting goods retailer Decathlon, held by billionaires Mulliez, sold sportswear, bicycles, roller blades, and other sports equipment worth around 9.1 million euros in its first year on the Romanian market, according to the financial report submitted with the Trade Registry, and requested by ZF. This means the only store held on the Romanian market exceeded one million-euro sales per month, considering that the store opened at the beginning of April 2009 in Militari Shopping Center.
Fabrice Beschu, country manager of Decathlon Romania, has always been reserved when it comes to disclosing data on the company he runs, preferring not to go into details on the subject.
The retailer's results show Romanian consumers' appetite for shopping, despite a year of financial crisis, which is behind Decathlon's decision to expand the store chain to six this year.
