Buyers of goods and services will receive part of spent money back from the state in exchange for fiscal receipts, in a move whereby the Government will try to crack down on fiscal evasion, as prime minister Emil Boc announced. The Government will set an annual ceiling, a percentage of which will be returned to consumers. "A move we're holding in view, at MPs' proposal, is to encourage people to ask for a fiscal receipt for the various products they buy. What does this mean? That all those who will have collected receipts, over or up to a certain ceiling, will benefit from a premium of the respective sum, as an encouragement for them to ask for a fiscal receipt for the various goods sold in Romania, from bread, to highly valuable goods, very expensive goods, because, unfortunately, the fact that fiscal receipts are not issued is also a form of fiscal evasion," said Boc. Tax consultants consider such a move may be efficient, to the extent to which areas with high fiscal evasion will be targeted.
