The companies controlled by communications groups OTE (Greece) and Deutsche Telekom (Germany) last year generated turnover worth approximately 1.3bn euros, according to the data the companies published with the Trade Registry.
The figure almost equals the one registered in 2008, considering Cosmote bought Zapp, and mobile telephony increases offset the declines witnessed by all the other business lines, from fixed telephony to retail.
The five companies that are in the Greek-German sphere of influence are Romtelecom (fixed telephony leader), Cosmote (ranking third on the mobile telephony segment), Germanos (leading on the telecom retail segment), Zapp (a mobile telephony operator due to be absorbed by Cosmote) and Combridge (a services provider for operators and companies).
Deutsche Telekom and OTE have not released consolidated data on the entire Romanian turnover for the entire 2009, so that, excluding some acquisitions sealed among group companies, turnover may be lower than 1.37bn euros.
OTE and Deutsche Telekom can claim together the top position on Romania's communications market in terms of cumulated turnover, but Orange and Vodafone are still leading in terms of profitability.
